“If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
When was the last time someone or something made you smile? A smile can be contagious. Even when we are experiencing challenging moments, a smile can change our attitude and likely the outcome. Imagine even one chain reaction that started from a simple smile to brighten someone’s day. A smile is like a seed that can grow into a harvest of smiles that feeds and nurtures peace in our world. If we are to see and experience peace in the world, we must be able to experience it within ourselves.
Try smiling at someone and observe what happens. Even if you wake up in the morning and smile to yourself in the mirror, you’ve made a great start to your day. Notice how the smile made you feel. Perhaps during your daily meditation, reflect on your smile opportunities for the day. Do you feel a sense of peace in your body when you have smile currency in your pocket? Notice how your day might change if you spend that smile currency on others?
